DETOX: the fine print.
if you type “yoga detox” into any search box, you’re bound to find all kinds of claims and all kinds of ideas about getting clean and lean with yoga. and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably noticed that we’re getting ready for a 20 DAY DETOX that’s gonna rock your tox off…but is the hype for real?
we think yes…and no.
no? whaddya mean, no??
honestly, your body is really darn good at detoxing itself…that’s how you’re still alive after all those margaritas, beers and late night pizzas. when you treat yourself well (a.k.a. cut down on the “toxins” you’re putting in), your liver and vascular system do all the detoxing you need.
yoga is a great way to give your natural detox abilities a boost by improving blood flow in your body…when you get on your mat and get your heart pumping, turn your body upside down, put a twist in it, open some tight spaces, your vascular system gets what it wants and needs to keep you in fine form.
when you get your sweat on, and you will get your sweat on, you help your skin get rid of toxins and waste. it’s gonna do it anyway, but a good sweat sesh puts it into high gear.
combine all this with the stress relief you feel (and that huge bottle of cool water you drink) after a solid practice, you’ll be good to go.
