ENSURE YOU’RE COUNTED
mailing in or dropping off your ballot? here’s a checklist to ensure it’s counted.
- only open your ballot when you’re ready to vote, so that you can keep all the pieces in order and nothing gets lost.
- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. (also, follow them.)
- go slowly as you fill in your ballot. We’re all excited to vote, but ballots can be pretty complex, so it’s best to take your time.
- if your ballot contains an inner secrecy sleeve, be sure you use it. ballots can be spoiled if they are returned without their sleeve.
- sign where indicated. (this goes back to reading the instructions, and looking for any and all signature lines that apply.)
- get a witness or notary if your state requires it. (California does not require this. states that do: AL, AK, LA, MS, MO, NC, OK, RI, SC, VA, WI.)
- seal the outer envelope and affix a stamp, if required.
- mail your ballot ASAP…better yet, drop it off at a ballot box or early voting facility. early voting 24-hour drop-boxes for sonoma county include:
-
-
- Registrar of Voters, 435 Fiscal Dr., Santa Rosa
-
-
-
- Santa Rosa Veteran’s Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Avenue, Santa Rosa
-
-
-
- Petaluma Veteran’s Memorial Building, 1094 S. Petaluma Boulevard, Petaluma
-
after you vote: track your ballot. (check your voter information guide for more info) and be aware that you may receive calls/letters/emails from the secretary of state’s office in the days following the election to confirm signature or other details.
